Statement on AI (non-)Usage
If you couldn't be bothered to write something, I won't be bothered to read it.
To summarize, all of my content is generated by me, not an AI. Specifically:
- No blog posts I write are written by AI.
- No newsletters I send are written by AI.
- I do not generate any images or other media using AI.
One exception to this is outlined in detail in my post How I converted speaking content to written with AI. In this post, I describe how I used Chat-GPT to summarize a very long transcript of a workshop I delivered to create the first draft of the post Debugging common causes for slow loading in Shopify Liquid storefronts. The reason I did this project is that my employer was pushing us to find ways to use AI. It didn't even do a great job, and I probably spent more time than if I would have just written it out.
The teaser image for the previous post was also generated using Dall-E as it was topical and part of the same push. I prefer using real images and attributing the photographer when known, and I pay for image and icon services such as Unsplash+ and The Noun Project.
I also actively block AI bots and scrapers using CloudFlare as I consider my content to be my own intellectual property.
I do not currently use AI tools for programming, like GitHub Copilot.
